The Discworld, by the numbers

Forty-one novels read span by span — every line of dialogue attributed, every scene located, every bit of gossip logged. Who really speaks the most words? Which city hosts the most story? Who gets discussed most often behind their back? All of it counted. None of it invented. Probably.

This was a slow project done properly: each book annotated passage by passage, then checked, then counted. All forty-one novels are in the tally, and a book only ever joined it once every one of its words had been accounted for.

Seven doors into the Discworld: most readers start with a subseries and follow the characters they fall for. Pick a door.

The Subseries

Or take them as they came, 1983 to 2015 — thirty-two years, forty-one books, one increasingly complicated city.
